SmartHubs & Smart Talent: Why GCCs Are the New Growth Engines?

SmartHubs & Smart Talent: Why GCCs Are the New Growth Engines?

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to witness and be a part of how rapidly the global business landscape shifts. What worked even a few years ago might already feel outdated today and, in this environment, one shift has stood out to me more than most: the way Global Capability Centres (GCCs) have evolved.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to witness and be a part of how rapidly the global business landscape shifts. What worked even a few years ago might already feel outdated today and, in this environment, one shift has stood out to me more than most: the way Global Capability Centres (GCCs) have evolved.

What used to be primarily about cost savings has now transformed into something far more strategic. Today’s GCCs are no longer just offshore support centres. They’ve become what I like to call SmartHubs - hubs of innovation, powered by the right talent, built in the right places.

And I believe this evolution isn’t just a trend, it’s a fundamental shift in how businesses unlock growth. Here’s why:

1. Talent First – Always

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: nothing scales like great talent. And India, especially its growing tech corridors beyond the metros, is full of it. GCCs today attract exceptional minds across AI, cloud, product engineering, analytics, and more.

But it's not just about hiring smart people. The best GCCs are developing them by investing in continuous learning, leadership training, and building cultures where innovation thrives. This kind of long-term thinking is what separates transactional setups from truly transformational ones.

2. From Back Office to Innovation Core

I’ve seen firsthand how today’s GCCs are taking the lead in developing new ideas and not just executing on old ones. Whether it’s co-creating with startups, partnering with universities, or building next-gen digital products, the role of a GCC has become much more entrepreneurial.

What excites me most? Teams here are being trusted with end-to-end ownership. They’re not waiting for direction, they’re setting the direction.

3. Control + Agility = Competitive Edge

Unlike traditional outsourcing models, GCCs give companies direct control over their operations, culture, and IP. That makes a big difference, especially when you're moving fast and can’t afford misalignment.

With the right model, GCCs offer both strategic depth and flexibility. You get the ability to scale quickly, shift focus as needed and align teams closely with your business vision.

4. A Shift in Accessibility

There was a time when only large enterprises could afford to set up GCCs, investing in office space, tech infrastructure, legal compliance, and talent pipelines. Today, that’s changed.

Thanks to plug-and-play models, scalable service partners, and rising tech readiness in Tier 2/3 cities, even mid-sized companies can build world-class capability centres without starting from scratch. What used to be a privilege is becoming a powerful, accessible growth strategy.

5. More Than Saving Costs – They’re Creating Value

We’ve moved beyond the “cheaper talent” narrative. The real story now is value creation as GCCs are helping companies grow revenue, improve customer experiences, and innovate faster.

They’re no longer just part of the business. They’re shaping the future of the business.

As someone who’s worked hands-on in the GCC ecosystem and now as a founder building for the future, I believe GCCs represent one of the most promising growth avenues for global businesses and for India. They allow us to tap into global demand, nurture homegrown talent, and build resilient businesses that can thrive in uncertainty.

Because in the end, growth isn’t just about what you build.
It’s also about where you build and who you build it with.

And increasingly, that "where" is a SmartHub.
And the "who" is Smart Talent.
